Smokie Oliver Swafford passed away peacefully on May 4, 2010 after a short illness.
Smokie was born on April 1, 1998 to Shadow Swafford and Savannah Hoover. He has lived in Anderson all of his life. He was the oldest of four.
Smokie was adopted by his current parents, Jerry "Doc" Swafford and Gloria Mitchell and had lived with them all of his life. Smokie loved running around outside late at night chasing his buddy, Zander, around the house and getting into everything he could think of.
Smokie had a lot of favorite places to sleep including under his parents bed and in a certain chair in the kitchen, but his favorite place was in a mere cardboard box by the sliding glass door in the dining room where he could feel the warmth of the sun on him during the day. Smokie always wanted to be close to someone warm or lights.
In addition to his parents, Jerry Swafford and Gloria Mitchell, Smokie is survived by Robert and Valerie Vanbuskirk, Ashley Mitchell, his favorite nieces and nephews, Alise, Alivia "Libby", Damien, Devin and Gavin, and his Aunt Stephanie and Uncle Tim.
Smoke was a big part of the family and, in fact, seemed to run the whole show around the house, having everyone taking care of his every need and desire. Smoke was very kind to children and strangers.
He was preceded in death by his biological parents, and Dizzy, Destiny, and his buddy, Bandit.
